It is the end of a Trout Lake love story that spanned several decades, filled with trials and tribulations, countless happy memories, and an enduring love that never wavered. It is with profound sadness, and much love, that we announce the passing of Doreen (Graham) Romano and Arthur (Art) Romano of Trout Lake, BC.
Doreen passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 87, at Halcyon House in Nakusp, BC. Art followed on January 23, 2026, at the age of 90. The love they shared was legendary, and they affectionately referred to each other simply as “Love” or “Lover.” They enjoyed fishing, exploring the beautiful scenery around their home, and taking long drives around the Trout Lake area. Above all, they were truly each other’s best friend.
Art and Doreen were both born and raised in Creston, BC. They began their life together as husband and wife on June 20, 1959. With Art operating heavy equipment, they followed construction projects throughout British Columbia until a temporary job in Trout Lake became a permanent opportunity logging for George Sawczuk, who was developing lots around Trout Lake at the time. George offered his employees the first opportunity to purchase lots in the subdivision, and Art and Doreen seized the chance. It was there that they planted their roots and began building their forever home around 1965.
Life brought both joy and hardship. They endured the heartbreaking loss of their infant daughter, Sherri Lynn, in 1960, yet they faced every challenge together with remarkable strength. They went on to establish Romano Log Loading Company, with Art continuing to haul logs well into his seventies. His heel boom log loader still sits proudly in the yard of their Trout Lake home—a lasting reminder of his strong work ethic and dedication.
Alongside the hard work came many wonderful times and lifelong friendships. Their kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others were constant throughout their lives and remained evident even in their later years, despite declining health.
Art and Doreen touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew them. May they rest in peace, forever together.
A special thank you to the staff at Halcyon House for the exceptional love, kindness, and care they gave to both Art and Doreen. We are all deeply grateful for the compassion shown during their final chapter.
Please join us in celebrating the lives of Art and Doreen Romano.
We invite you to share your stories, your smiles, and your memories as we honour them together.
